no not really i havnt played the others and its freakin awesome.
No you do not the story of skyrim ocurrs after the elderscrolls 4 oblivion and morowind. i just finished the story line today so i say this from personal expirence. there are a few little things in the game that refer to tiber septim and martin septim from oblivion but other than that there isnt much that will make you need the other story lines info. and none that rely information from the last games.Can i play Skyrim without knowing the storyline?

there are little reference you won't understand but you might pick up on eventually, but nothing that will confuse you.
there are also many many books in game that you can read (usually about 4 or 5 pages long) that talk about the lore of the elder scrolls series.
ALSO! if something is really confusing you you could just find an elder scrolls wiki and look it up

Nope you will be fine. The story is confusing anyways and I just play the missions
