Will I be able to play Skyrim without playing any of the other games?

Like story wise.

Will i be able to get the gist of it or will i be totally confused? Will I be able to play Skyrim without playing any of the other games?
YES the same way you can play fallout 3 or new vegas without playing the other one . The same way you can play halo 3 without playing halo 2
As mentioned in another answer all of the Elder Scrolls games are independent of each other, but set in the same game world.

Your character usually starts in a jail and you develop the story from there. Infact, one of the exciting things about Skyrim will be that the story will change according to how you play the game.

The only thing you would loose out on is the refrences to previous games e.g. books that you find on your explorations. However I wouldn't worry at all, Bethesda are excellent storytellers.

I personally played the last two games in the wrong order, Oblivion then Morrowind, and had no problem at all.

So in a word: YESWill I be able to play Skyrim without playing any of the other games?
You should be able to play it. I didn't play the first two games in the elder scrolls and I was able to play Morrowind without any problem. You may get a little confused but I am sure you can learn about the previous plot lines while you go. Plus theres always google if you need to look anything up
Yes you will.

Although Morrowind and Oblivion are some of the best games in my opinion, you can just jump in with Elder Scrolls V Skyrim. Each game is completely independent of itself,Will I be able to play Skyrim without playing any of the other games?
All the TES games are independant. They might reference other areas, but they aren't relevant
other sequences do not need to play skyrim but advise you to buy oblivion because it is a good game and worth playing
