Do i need to know the backstory of The Elder scrolls to play SKYRIM?

I'm going to get The Elder Scrolls V: SKYRIM for xmas and i have not played the first four games. Do i need to know any backstory before playing SKYRIM?Do i need to know the backstory of The Elder scrolls to play SKYRIM?
There's a back story? Just kidding they really explain everything you need to know to follow the story line and all the books in the game provide more history and and sometimes helpful clues for your quests. But every Elder Scrolls game is designed as if you've never played an Elder Scrolls game before and they do a very good job at it.

That being said ... If you do like Skyrim you should at least try Oblivion and Morrowind they are both great games. Though the learning curve is steep from Skyrim (easiest to learn) to Oblivion (somewhat challenging to get used to) and Morrowind (most difficult to learn and more difficult to master its also best played on PC where you can get texture mods to make the game look better)
Not really. It's kinda nifty to have a general knowledge of what's happened previously so you can draw the connections to what's developing in Skyrim, but the game does a really good job of explaining what's gone on and what all you need to know.Do i need to know the backstory of The Elder scrolls to play SKYRIM?
When you dive into the main quest they pretty much explain it. With reference to "The Blades" who protected the Old King who was a Dragon Born. Although there weren't dragons during his time. It's pretty nice how they completely broke out of any shackles they would have had.
Not really it sort of explains the story but playing the previous Elder Scrolls would give you more detail.Do i need to know the backstory of The Elder scrolls to play SKYRIM?
That's the best part of these games, no you don't... My first Elder Scrolls game was Oblivion, the previous one...
