the steam online-drm seems to be pushing the PC-based game ratings down...I thought about buying it for PC, but if steam forces you to be online in order to play the game, I'll definitely reconsider. You can play other games offline via consoles, but not so with the PC? Sounds pretty fishy to me.Do you have to be online in order to play Skyrim?

What.
Have you actually tried using Steam? It's great. You can actually start it offline, and the only time you need to get online is when you activate your Skyrim copy. After that you can stay offline forever if you want. The good thing about having it online on Steam is the automatic EVERYTHING. Patches, DLC, Driver updates, etc. are all automatic when you're logged into Steam. Not to mention the extensive community features it has.
So yeah, don't worry about it, even if you have to go online occassionally it's not that bad. You'd go online on the consoles to get the patches anyway.Do you have to be online in order to play Skyrim?
no you can play it offline
