Skyrim? Do you have to play anything before it to catch on?

I just bought skyrim, but before i play it, does it follow some series? Like should i play a starter game, before this one. Overall, is skyrim part of a necessary series to follow before i play this one?Skyrim? Do you have to play anything before it to catch on?
Skyrim is part of the Elder Scrolls series but they are made so you don't have to play any of the other games to understand the story of this one. There might be a couple references here and there but but besides that your good.
OblivionSkyrim? Do you have to play anything before it to catch on?
It's a story completely of it's own, but does briefly mention things that happened in Oblivion. Not things that are crutial, just small histories that have nothing to do with the current game, really. I guess if you wanted, you could play Oblivion and Morrowind, but they don't change how awesome Skyrim is.
Nah, Skyrim was the first Elder Scrolls game I've played and I understand what's going on.Skyrim? Do you have to play anything before it to catch on?
It's not really necessary, you can just start in Skyrim. If you really want to know what happened in the series before Skyrim, you can always read books in-game like Oblivion Crisis, Life of Uriel Septim, and something something.

my favourite book is Kolb %26amp; The Dragon. worth every damn pages.
You could play Oblivion but it is not needed to understand Skyrim. It pretty much has it's own story.
